Klang… the place up north famous for Bah Kut Teh … I’ve heard many stories about how great the dish is with some of my friends driving all the way there just for the pork rib soup.I haven’t had the chance to taste the original ones there nor think I would for anytime soon (refuse to drive up lol
)
So I guess I would just have to settle for those we can find locally.
Aly and I walked past this place many moons ago last year …. and it’s only now that we finally sat down here for some tasting since we were in the area.
We had gone to nearby Haji Lane to satisfy Aly’s clothes shopping craves. I like alot of the clothes shops located in the shophouses there…. the shophouses remind me so much of my time at Surfing Bananas at Mohd. Sultan … Sigh… I really miss working there….
I’ve always thought living in a shophouse would be so cool… how envious I was of Estelle back then

Anyway, enough of the side tracking… we’re here to try out what exactly is so special about the Klang version versus our local peppery bah kut teh ![]()

We got here around 715pm … placed was filled already except for 2 empty tables… lucky lucky us ![]()

The guy came over to take our order …
Thankfully I had read up on this place several times on the internet… so I proceeded to order stuff….

Dark sauce with chopped chilli padi … just where do these bah kut teh (and chicken rice stalls) stalls get their dark sauce?
I love them so much ![]()
If anyone of you know where I can get similar type of dark soy sauce… let me know! ![]()

Garlic bits…. erm… what am I suppose to do with them?
Dunk them in the soup or use as a dip?
This is the first time I see this at a bah kut teh stall… so quite clueless where this fits in ![]()
Do let me know too if you’re aware of this ![]()

Aly wanted this… peanuts… not a nutty person…. so it was all for her

You Tiao… fried dough fritters … for you to dunk them into the soup
Portion was quite pathetic lol … and most places I’ve been to …their you tiao is at least still crispy or something…
The ones here were already soggy even before they went into the soup
![]()

Giam Chye… salted vegetables…. this was lousy … I prefer the type cooked with alot of garlic and soft…
This one here was very salty, not soft (quite hard)… not cooked long enough? Or cooked to this consistancy on purpose?
No taste of garlic in this one as well… Lucky it was only 50cents… lol … and lucky the guy asked if I wanted 50cents or $1 portion ![]()

You Cai … Xiao Bai Cai with oyster sauce…. Oily … Aly didn’t like this much …

Many reviewers actually preferred the pig trotters to the bah kut teh itself ![]()
So it’s a must try ![]()

It arrived bubbling hot….
Was a little bit oily…
Taste wise… had a hint of some herbs …but strangely it was a little spicy… probably due to the ginger …
Texture of the meat was excellent though… the meat was tender, the fatty bits and tendon was very soft… how pig trotters should be! ![]()
Aly didn’t like this one much though ![]()
So it was more meat for me ![]()

Bubbling hot as well ….

Bean curd skin … not pig skin? Hmm….
Button mushrooms, vegetables and pork ribs in a rich herbal broth
I call it broth as it’s thick… not like our local bah kut teh soup which is usually clear… this one was really thick (thankfully not as thick as the gravy in the pig trotters
)
Here’s the thing … the broth was thick … the herbal taste was strong … but as I drank more, I found it bland…
Yup … for some reason … it just didn’t seem right…. it didn’t make you want to drink more … not sweet enough… not savoury enough ….

The pork ribs were all chopped up to this little bite sizes … I had ordered a medium bowl to share with Aly…
There was a generous number of pork ribs in the soup, which was good ![]()
I haven’t had bah kut teh with bite sized ribs (except at home when mum cooks bah kut teh) anywhere before…
Aly commented that although they were small… it was lots … as compared to some stalls which serve long ribs but give you like 2-3 pieces only…. good point ![]()
The pork ribs were a joy … the meat was very tender…. just goes off the bone easily and well marinated…
I hate eating bah kut teh where the ribs are not soft enough and you have to use your hands and teeth to bite the meat off the bone… and leaving bits of pork stuck between your teeth …. I can name you many places that serve ribs like that …
Even my favourite bah kut teh stall at Alexandra Village doesn’t have meat this tender at times ![]()

Total bill was $17.90 excluding our oolong tea to wash everything down ![]()
Thumbs up to the meat served here … everything was soft and tender… really good …
The rest of the stuff was so so only though …
Would I return? I would say yes… for the meat ![]()
(although parking in the area is a chore
)

That’s what I started doing the next few times, mixing up the garlic with the dark sauce and chilli
Haven’t tried the competing stall yet, but my other half has…
Saw a branch of the competing stall at Thomson as well while driving past
Thanks for the tip
