Had dinner at Asian Kitchen… 2 bowls of noodles and a side dish of fried tofu… 2 glasses of iced water … total bill $25 … Man… really feel the pinch…

Please pinch me if I decide to dine there again… should’ve went to Rochor Kopitiam instead

Good Friday tomorrow … what’s there to do? Singapore’s soooooooooooooo boring Sigh….

Newcastle United is going down….

Sigh… With the remaining fixtures, I can’t foresee any miracles that can save the club against relegation.

With the incompetent fools running the club and the stand-in managers (even Joe Kinnear himself is crap), looks like we’re destined to go down.

I never understood why Shola Ameobi, one of the laziest and unskilled footballers (if you can even call him one) is always on the teamsheet and Obafemi Martins is always left on the bench or subbed out when we need him the most.

The game against Bolton last weekend showed it all. The only player who had the drive was Jonas who worked his socks off while the rest of the clowns were indifferent on the field.

When the time came for subs, Geremi was put on. Geremi?! Even Mourinho mentioned that Geremi “had lost his legs” …. Perhaps the club does need to be relegated to get rid of all the deadwood in the team and rebuild from there … sigh….

LAST DAY….

and not much time for anything…. we woke early… took the bus to the airport…. and then proceeded to have breakfast before boarding the plane….

Ahhh!!! horrors!!! It had ho-see (dried oysters) in it!!!

Luckily it was in really small pieces…. and the smell/taste wasn’t too strong ….

Maybe I should get mum to dice it up like that when she forces me to eat them during Chinese New Year, next year

Hong Kong 2009 Day 04!!!

Rise and shine!!! Our “last” day in Hong Kong
Had to make the most of it… so we woke up really early ……

…. so that we could check this place out!

Why? ‘cos I read about this place online

So here’s what happens when you’re here.

You find your own seats.
The place would be packed.
Old man would ask you what tea you want.
He’ll return with your tea leaves in the cup/pot and you mix it up yourself.

Everybody seems busy

Look at how packed the place is … people waiting for seats and all….

and when the pushcart rolls out with the dim sum…

Don’t expect the lady to serve you.

You have to go to her instead and bring back to the table whatever you want! SELF SERVICE

Early morning…. piping hot dim sum for breakfast!

I pray that it’s not like the crappy ones we had for breakfast at Changi Airport

Bun is soft…. filling looked okay… moist… not dried up

So here we are… at the Modern Toilet

Had to take the lift up…. the place was undergoing renovation…. The lift had some LCD tv playing some stuff… quite cool…

We also brought Aud to Ladies Street where he complained that there’s nothing there…. just like a cheap pasar malam lol

We then brought him to Hui Liu Shan (许留山) desserts…

I said it’s his first time in Hong Kong! Plus it’s his last day here as well… die die must eat dessert here lol
(Okay it was just a good excuse for me to eat some mangoes )

Hong Kong 2009 Day 03!!!

We brought Aud to Sing Heung Yuen for lunch

The place is packed as anticipated. We got seats in a short while though

Aly had iced milk tea

I had iced ying yang (tea + coffee + milk)
Figured I needed extra does of caffeine
Mixture was just right. Equal amounts of each and the 2 tastes did not overpower the other. One word. POWER!

Okay… the guy who does the toast is staring straight at me

It was okay lah… managed to finish everything without too much fuss

We then headed to Tai Ping Koon for dinner. Watched it before on tv and also read about it on the internet.

Place is highly recommended by all… so here we are to try it out

We ordered lots of food… if only Aud was around… then we could’ve ordered more …. grrrrr… quite pissed that he didn’t want to come out with us and opted to stay in the hostel…

Ordered Fried Rice Noodles with Beef (stir fried beef hor fun)
(We basically ordered everything that was recommended on the website )
This was pretty good although I found it a little oily…
The hor fun was the thin type… like the Ipoh hor fun….

This was pretty good to me …. It was ONE shell only though…. I thought it would be a pair or something
Oh well… there’s only Aly and me… plus we have alot of other dishes as well…

We ordered the roast pigeon. They’re famous for this dish.
I haven’t had pigeon in my life. So here I am one of the most famous places in Hong Kong for roast pigeon for my virgin bite

and the verdict???

EEEEEEECCCCKKK!!!!

Okay… I know now that I don’t like pigeon. The meat was too gamey for me…. Same went for Aly as well…

It was left to me to finish the pigeon This was the best I could do. Pigeon head was quite disturbing

The pigeon innards (liver) were cooked and dipped in this sauce separately.
I took a bite. That’s all. Just a bite. I don’t eat bird livers!!! I hate it absolutely…
Sigh… this whole pigeon thingy is just a big waste of money
Oh well… at least I know now that Aly and I don’t eat pigeon

Day 02 in Hong Kong. The plan was to grab a quick lunch before heading to Telford Plaza.

We walked around the area near where we were staying looking for some place to eat and then ended up at the same place we had lunch on our previous 2 visits (ya… we’re boring lol… anyway Aud hasn’t been here before )

All sorts of stuff on the table… toothpicks… pepper… chiili sauce… chilli oil… pepper… soy sauce… etc.

I had iced milk tea while Aly had hot lemon tea. Aud had iced lemon tea. Nothing beats the iced milk/lemon teas in Hong Kong

Aly wanted a side dish of vegetables… we only had a few to choose from. It was either lettuce or tung choi or kai lan. She chose lettuce, which I’m not a big fan of Oh well….

Aud had beef ball hor fun…. didn’t know how it tasted… no feedback from him either… but no complaints from him…

Woo hoo!!!! 3am… middle of the night lol… Caught a cab and went to fetch Aly and her brother…. and off to the airport we went!

Budget flight… no meals served on board (There are actually… but at crazy prices…. )
We took Jetstar by the way

No food on board…. so we grabbed a bite before boarding the plane….

Got myself some glutinous rice…. totally crappy… meat was hard… rice was hard… oily… and portion was too darn small…. CRAPPY!!!! Should’ve just went to Burger King!!!

Aly’s char siew bao… equally crappy… little meat… lots of hard bread ….

Aud’s big bun…. he said it was lousy as well… sheeesh!

So here we are on board the bus…. with our luggages thrown onto the luggage area in the bus…

It was a direct route to our hostel…. amazing! So much easier than taking the train… ‘cos we didn’t have to switch trains and we had a seat all the way. Plus we didn’t need to drag our luggages all over the train station and all….

Ta da!!! Here we are at our hostel.
Wah lau eh… scary!!! You sure this is the right place?

Okay… I got knocked on the head… ‘cos I didn’t see the proper sign … but still ….

Dragon Inn Hostel (Ah Shan Hostel) …. right in the heart of Mongkok … good for supper and shopping!
On a budget this time… I’m not complaining (or can’t complain ‘cos Aly is paying for my lodging and airfare this time round …. thanks darling muack! )

This is how it looks inside…. the room is abit small…. just a double deck bed and a single bed…
14″ Tv…. a small desk… and a small attached toilet.

Like I said…. can’t complain

At least the room is clean and the air con is working

We settled in quickly and then went off to grab some lunch… hungry! …. and can’t wait to stomach some local fare

Ended up at the Kowloon Roast thingy we’ve been to on our previous trips….

That’s about it… no soup this time round…. saving my tummy for some street food!

Met Tong and Kelly and we headed to CityGate Mall together…

Yup… they are in Hong Kong as well… They arrived yesterday and will be going back home few days before us.

Realised something…. it’s such a rare thing that we are all in Hong Kong….

and we didn’t take a group photo together!!! Wah lau

Anyway… Citygate was disappointing this time round…. ended up with nothing! NOTHING!!! …. SIGH

I was hoping to get some nice Puma, Adidas and Nike merchandise…. but didn’t find anything I liked.
Not much stuff as well… came at the wrong time (wrong season)

Took the train back to Mongkok and headed to MX for dinner

Fancy eh? The ice is placed out of the glass so as not to dilute the milk tea… and keep the tea cold at the same time.
Which genius thought of this?

It was Aud’s first time…. so we introduced to him the steamboat we liked so much last year

Can you believe it… we ordered 3 sets of the same thing

and this time round… I learnt to take my time ‘cos the solid fuel can last at least a half hour or more

No more pumpkin milk soup base… so I just took chicken soup while Aly took tomato soup base.

Having Aud around is a good thing …there’s someone to help Aly and me take photos!!!

Some promotion the place was having… man… I should try this the next time we’re here! Looks good

Okay… just being greedy … we decided to head back to the new wing to have some dessert at Ji De Chi ….

Place was in a real mess…. it was really crowded…. and there wasn’t any crowd control lol… people were just queuing aimlessly everywhere… nobody knew where to queue…. those taking away and those waiting for a table were all queueing at the same place…. it was real crazy… talk about poor management…

We got a table easily as we just strolled in much to the amazement of some folks who were queuing blindly….

Went up to the counter to order our desserts …. there were lots of things which were not available. The boss??? explained to me that it was ‘cos they just opened and were shorthanded.

Duh… it’s not as thought this was the first outlet they opened… how could they screw up so badly?

Got our mango desserts….

Aly’s one had some … erm… beancurd in it or something… can’t really recall…
Her’s came with a metal spoon….

Mine came with a broken spoon…. totally unacceptable

I seriously hope they solve their problems quickly… tsk tsk

Okay… enough food and going through crowds for the day… time to head home

Men-Ichi Japanese Ramen @ Jurong Point

We headed back to the old wing (JP1) and decided to have dinner there instead as it was less crowded

Waited a short while to get into this place… Men-Ichi …. erm… Men Itchy?

I always found those little plastic/resin dishes cute

It’s basically a ramen place… by the RES group …. hope it’s better than the Shimbashi Soba at Paragon

Some writeup about slurping your noodles

Aly ordered the Kanitama Ramen ($12.90)

It’s crab meat omelette with noodles….

Some pickled veggies at the side… Aly didn’t touch them of ‘cos…. so ahMao ate them all up

My order of boring Negi Char Siew Ramen ($10.90)

…. ‘cos I wanted to eat the egg I’m a sucker for eggs

Ordered a side dish of Buta Kakuni ($3.90)
Basically braised pork belly…. YUMMY!!!

I also ordered a side dish of what Aly had – minus the noodles…
Kanitama ($3.90) ….

Total bill after all the taxes and service charge was $39.78 (I ordered a can of coke for $2.20 as well)

Food was pretty decent… at least much better than the soba at Paragon
Food was tastier too…. maybe ‘cos I liked the pork belly and eggy bits

Made a trip down to the new extension at Jurong Point.

The place was really crowded!!!
