Boxing Day Hainanese Curry Rice

Met Tong and Kelly and his friend John at Kah Motors at Leng Kee.

The couple were there to test drive the Honda Stream as they were thinking of changing to an MPV.

I just went along for the ride as usual. Didn’t test drive though, didn’t want to be addicted and then go home and keep thinking about changing cars

We headed to nearby ABC Market for lunch. Ate at this Hainanese Curry rice stall recommended by John.

Didn’t bring my camera, so used my mobile phone camera instead. Lousy results. Anyway hope the meal doesn’t look disgusting to you lol

The food was pretty good. Auntie serving was very friendly as well. Will bring Aly here to try one day

We decided to just sit down and chill at Cottage Waffle for awhile…

We sat all the way in the shop… nice cosy and quiet corner…. although abit stuff

I had an ice tea… baby had most of the waffle though… I’m not much of a waffle person

It’s my first time at Outback…. ya… I know… after donkey years …..
Ordered a drink for a start … don’t ask me what it is…. forgot already lol….

Some bread served before the meal … nice and soft with creamy butter…. definitely better than Cafe Cartel

Some crab cakes…. not bad… abit on the dry side though ….

Aly ordered chicken …. 2 chicken drumsticks!
She couldn’t finish this… so I promptly helped her with it

My steak… forgot which cut already as well…. pretty alright I should say …. the onions were yummy

It was baby’s Christmas Treat…. Thank you darling

Lao Beijing @ Tiong Bahru Plaza

Went to Lao Beijing @ Tiong Bahru Plaza with Aly for high tea ….

Some of the stuff we took …. fried stuff
Fried chicken …. sweet and sour pork… and some chinese pancakes

Just had to taste abit of everything …. the siew mai was pretty good… fried noodles too

The garlic sliced pork was super yummy…. just that your breath would smell like crazy after that
Pickled cucumbers were crunchy and really refreshing … nuts… erm… Aly ate them all…. no nuts for me

Szechuan sour soup … thankfully not too sour …

More fried stuff…. popiah … some fish slices… and erm… some other stuff

Jellyfish was kinda too much for just the 2 of us …. taste pretty okay… if only the strips weren’t that chunky…

Xiao long bao …

Zha jian mien … damn small bowl!!! For 1

Okay… lucky we only ordered 2 pieces of this…. ‘cos the fillings were made up of stuff we really hate… chinese chives!!!

Ordered a bowl of stewed beef noodles … super small bowl… for one only that’s why
Soup was a little spicy, but pretty rich in flavor… noodles were pretty springy too
Beef was nice and tender… if only the portion wasn’t so small… but then again, I’m here to eat everything lol… not just beef noodles

Went for more rounds of siew mai and garlic pork slices as well as other dishes that were available…
Chicken feet and some tofu and veggies

Melon soup…. very clear… nice!

Couldn’t resist… more garlic pork … and some strange things… erm… bean curd skin is it?

Dessert time!!! Some cool cheng teng….

and some really sweet ice jelly

Too bad we didn’t get to eat the diy-popiah… as it was just the both of us, you need at least 4 people in order to order that dish

The total bill for the high tea was $37.90 for the 2 of us

Shimbashi Soba

For the first time in months… The queue at Shimbashi was pretty short (but we ended up queuing for half an hour anyway despite the short queue… grrr…. )

Never got to try out this place (‘cos of the long queue – refused to queue previously) … but since the queue was kinda short (2 couples ahead of us) … and we weren’t really that hungry… we decided to go for it

Teriyaki chicken that came with Aly’s set A… geez… it’s deep fried chicken drenched in teriyaki sauce… that’s not how it’s suppose to be done….

Shucks… can’t tell the difference even if it really is….

Dessert was pretty okay… but kinda expensive to me….
Not that high on mochi … the only thing I liked was the green tea ice cream eaten with the mashed red bean …

Wouldn’t pay for this ever again … IF I ever decide to eat here again for that matter.
Why so? Overpriced servings of mediocre food in my opinion (not to mention the long waiting time to even get a table – wonder why there are so many people queuing in the first place – not like the food is fantastic)

I seriously would’ve expected better from the RES Group ….

Ice Monster

Dinner at Ice Monster… our first time after all this while

Iced lemon tea ($2)
Anything’s better than canned ones

Taiwan Beef Noodles for me ($9)

Beef was tender and lots of it … better be! It’s 9 bucks per bowl! Not cheap

Jar Jiang Noodles for Aly ($6)

Lots of minced meat… and sliced cucumber

Mango with meat floss egg crepe ($4.50)

Lots of nice sweet mango bits and pork floss… didn’t like the crepe skin though… a little too thick for my liking… but everything else was good

You guys must be thinking why we didn’t eat their desserts as well… thing was… we weren’t feeling that hungry and dinner alone made us pretty full… no room for their famous mango desserts … perhaps next time I guess

Went to collect the clothes we sent for alteration at Aly’s tailor…

I was afraid there wasn’t enough food

Some deep fried prawns… was afraid Aly had nothing to eat… so added this at the last minute… only to forget that it’s fried! Oh well

Lunch was filling… good… and cheap

and we drowned the meal with some good old oolong tea

Sam has never been to Kuishin-Bo before… so Aly gave her a treat today

Cold noodle! Shiok in sunny Singapore

Unhealthy stuff… fried dumplings… fish fingers… soft shelled crab… and some sticks of teriyaki chicken

Aly loves the cold long legged crabs here

Chawanmushi…. smooth and not too salty…

Paper pot soup! Stupid Aly ate all the beef!

Stir fried scallops with ginger … really tiny leh!

Some of the other stir fried dishes… more like chinese food than japanese

One of the “specials” at the place.
Every half an hour (or hour? or something ) the restaurant will play the “dong dong dong” tune and hand out a limited number of special dishes, first come first served.
So whenever you hear “dong dong dong… kuishin-bo” over the air, better jump off your seats and see where they’re handing out the dishes …
Managed to grab this erm… tiger prawns I reckon

Sam took lots of sashimi and a rice roll…

and more carbohydrates for her…. Girl… this is a buffet… stop stuffing yourself with carbo!!!

Teppanyaki … Bring the pegs with your table number to the counter, select your raw food and just hand it over to the chef… the waiters will bring the food over to your table when the food is done

I got myself half a bowl of it just to sample for the fun of it … not too bad lah … if you throw in lots of condiments

Dessert time! This was Aly’s plate…
Mango pudding… can’t recall what’s the pink one… strawberry pudding?
Some cakes and red bean pancake as well as a stick of mochi too

She also got a cup of soft serve ice cream… guess those are jelly balls or something

I went to the drinks counter to refill my coke… and then the “dong dong dong” tune came up… and they were handing this out right beside the coke dispensing machine… talk about right place right time

Turned out to be some melon sorbet thingy…

I manged to get 2 of them throughout the dinner

Japanese buffet makes girls happy

They’ve got different prices for the different timings throught the day and week.

Paradise on Earth Steamboat @ Katong with Sam

After all those warehouse sale visits, Aly and I ended up walking around City Plaza exploring the area

We then met up with Sam again for dinner at Paradise on Earth Steamboat at Katong.
They’ve expanded once again further down (214 Tanjong Katong) from where they are (200 Tanjong Katong)

Good thing we made a reservation. The new place at 214 looks cleaner and brighter
