shokudo japanese food bazaar….
This place has been opened for quite some time … but we didn’t want to try it out just yet…
Why? ‘cos the queues have been extremely long ….
We were suppose to have dinner here with Geoff and Vivian last week… but we went to Shillawon instead as we were afraid of the long queue….

We were walking around Plaza Singapura and it was getting to dinner time …. Thought we would head over to check if the queue at shokudo was short enough for us :P

Drove from Plaza Singapura to Raffles City…. the journey took half an hour! Goodness… ‘cos of the massive jams…. stupid govt. making us pay ERP and yet the congestion isn’t solved…. doesn’t anyone bring this up in Parliament? What is the opposition doing? Sheesh …

shokudo…. it’s a japanese version of Marché

Hmm… it was already 8+ (by the time I managed to sneak into the car park and find an empty lot)
Queue wasn’t so bad… we were 3rd in line ;)

We were shown to our seats and this is what you use to reserve your table while you go off to purchase your food ;)

Just like when I’m at Marché…. I walked around the place a few times without a clue what to buy :-s

Aly got us a bowl of steaming hot assorted mushroom and vegetable soup ($8.80)
Soup itself was very bland…. not totally tasteless… very clear…. hmm…
It was good for a change though …. it’s been a long time since I’ve had such a light soup :P

Some of Aly’s other buys …. Chukka Iidako - Octopus! ($2.50)

and jellyfish …. Chukka Kirage ($2.50)

I read on several reviews on the internet that the omelette was a must try and usually has the longest queue…. it wasn’t so bad for me… maybe ‘cos it wasn’t that early already :P
Joined the queue with 2 in front of me …. and got a Mushroom and cheese omelette ($5.80)
With the added mayo and cheese… this was pretty filling … but very shiok :P

Not a fan of bonito flakes though … :-s

Another dish that Aly ordered …. Garlic fried rice ($5.80)
She didn’t like this one much …. lots of fried garlic flakes… it was so so to me… but I finished it up anyway :P

Looks like majority of the stuff was bought by Aly lol :P
Soft shell crab tempura ($6)
Nothing special (how special am I looking for anyway :P )
Tastes just like the ones you get at other jappy restaurants ;)

Aly getting ready to tuck in :D

here I am about to gobble up the garlic fried rice :)

Finally… some other stuff that I got… Iced Maccha (Green Tea) ($2.50)
Not so good… the small cup I had in bangkok was alot better than this one …
Not smooth enough … too powdery … but then again… what was I expecting? :-s

Gotta grab some meat!!!… so off I went and got some bbq sticks ….
(pic taken without lighting adjustment)

Beef filet ($2.50)
Scallop ($3.80)
Yaki tori ($2.50)
Pork Belly ($2.50)

The 4 sticks were dribbled with teriyaki sauce… or some sweet soy sauce….
Scallops were pretty good …. beef was overcooked …. chicken was extremely tough (Tori Q is way better :P ) and the pork belly too salty (but then again pork belly is usually salty? :-s )
I wished they had roasted garlic :P
They had lots of stuff wrapped with bacon… quail eggs wrapped with bacon… prawns wrapped in bacon…. etc.
(pic taken with added lighting …. sheesh… when will I ever get it right :-s )

Aly got an orange can drink ($3.50)
Taste was so familiar…. I just can’t make out what it tastes similar to at this moment :-s

I went to check out what desserts they had and I ended up with this Mango Kakigoi ($6.80)
Pretty expensive for shaved ice? Quite okay actually… this with a scoop of ice cream would cost 2 bucks more :-s
Lots of mango flesh bits…. drizzle with mango syrup and some other sweet thingy… plus those strands of erm…. Kakigoi … which reminds me of the glass noodles in the soup we had :)) Are they the same thing? :P

Kitty Reserved for ahMao! :X

At the end of our meal… Aly was asking if I would come back here again ….
Would I? I suppose so…
I told her the next time I come here, I would try the full meals or something…
Perhaps a ramen or pizza or a plate of spaghetti :P

and….. only if the queue is short and when I get a better camera that can take better shots in low lighted areas without flash ;)
