I asked the salesgirl… she told me to come back next week Wah lau …

We perspired and panted like crazy just to search for this place
The girls were happy… they managed to get some pants and jeans …
I only got 2 shirts …sheesh …

Again… more walking in the hot sun…. walked past this petrol kiosk with a cafe inside… reminds me of Malaysia… I guess you don’t have cafes in petrol kiosks back home as there are hawker centres everywhere?

MTM!!! Wow… cool…. Wonder if they have anything for my lousy car

Tom Yam car …. the new 2008 Altis! Looks so much like a mini Camry …
Did I mention that the ride from the airport to the hotel when we arrived was in a Camry?
The boot was large enough to stuff all 3 of our large suitcases plus the ride was super comfy and stable at high speeds (no modifications of ‘cos )
Goodness… I’m becoming an uncle already… I think I want a Camry!!!

The place was really dead… maybe because it’s a Monday … hmm…

Hot and sweaty once again… but we had to grab some lunch… so we went into MK …

When it arrived… I went… what the?! …. Only 2 pieces?!

Okay… no need to panic… the rest of the chestnut bits were below…

and surprise surprise for me… bits of coconut flesh as well … this is the best red ruby dessert I’ve had EVER.
The starchy part around the chestnuts were thin… and the chestnuts inside were big and crunchy… unlike those back home …small pieces of chestnut covered in a thick layer of starch …
The coconut milk was rich and aromatic and the best thing were the added bits of coconut flesh…. lovely…

After our meal… we proceeded to the reason for our long journey here

Aly bought a shirt only… I blew SGD200 here
Shirley bought nearly SGD200 worth of stuff here too ….
Finally! I was happy …. I had changed so much money to buy lots and lots of football jerseys at Chatuchuk only for them to NOT have ANY for my size… sigh…
Which is why I went crazy here lol

Back to the hotel… waiting for our “limousine” to take us to the airport after a shower at the hotel’s health club

All fresh and ready to go home?

Here’s our limousine lol … A really old Volvo 940 … and it was a manual transmission car
Good thing – Managed to squeeze in 3 large suitcases in the boot
Bad thing I – Shirley jumped when she said there was something crawling near her in the car
Bad thing II – As the car was a manual one, erm… the guy driving wasn’t good at shifting gears! Had a really jerky ride to the airport

Time to grab some dinner before heading home… ended up at the same place as last year…
Ya ya… call us boring …

Aly and Shirley wanted to grab a cake and sit down to chill for awhile …
Then I asked them… eat now the lunch how?
They didn’t realise it was lunch time already …
So they changed their minds and decided to just have lunch here

Again… came in a cup not as shown on the menu This was really good though… made from real fresh mangoes… and it’s not overly blended… you can still eat chunks of mango flesh in it

I ordered this… just some glass noodles and minced pork … wasn’t really hungry… and I was hoping to grab some street food later on

It was back to Chatuchak … and viola! Found some fried chicken finally that Vivian says I should die die try

Let me tell you… this was really yummy! She gave me one that she had just fried…. fresh from the wok lol…
It was piping hot… very crispy and the meat was tender and juicy on the inside….

Ended up back at MBK ‘cos Shirley hadn’t been here before …so we walked around the place abit… I grabbed more food stuff to buy home…. and then we had a quick dinner at the food court there ….

Aly’s mixed beef noodles…. again… all sorts of crappy vegetables that we both don’t eat

This one was solid … saw the signboard which read special 2 types mixed chicken….
Only to realise after that…. it’s just roasted chicken and white chicken rice ….alamak …

The black sauce was interesting though… not your sweet soya sauce back home. This one had a slight sourish taste to it.
The chilli sauce was not bad as well. But no soup…. meal was quite dry…

Shirley got some mango salad to share… Aly couldn’t take this as it was very spicy… it was too sour for me….

and…. mango rice again…. just get the mangoes!!! How many times must I tell them?! Sigh ….

Where else to go at night? Khao San? Pat Pong Night Market? We ended up at Suan Lum instead … as Aly had read on the internet previously that at Pat Pong, there was a tendancy for the folks there to grab you into some sleazy places

The stuff here are not cheap! Plus the people manning the stalls are not as friendly as those at Chatuchak … didn’t really like this place…

Hungry…. we went back to Siam Square and then Paragon… but didn’t have much food places left opened… so we headed back to the hotel…. to eat wanton mee at the stall near it …

It’s Day 03 already … how time flies …. my ankle’s beginning to give me problems already …. ouch …

You guys must be wondering how boring it is to eat the same thing every morning lol …

Well… add variety! Mix and match your own boiled rice (porridge) I added lots of minced pork and pickles to mine

But then again… its the same omelette and ham, etc. Today’s omelette was done by another lady … saltier and not as soft as done by the other lady… not nice…

Off we went to Chatuchuk weekend market! I hope Shirley’s prepared

Hmm… Didn’t get to this part of Chatuchuk last year … the shops at this end seem much newer …

It’s still early…. not so many folks around….

The stuff at this shop weren’t cheap … Aly saw a silk dress she liked alot… but it cost SGD75 So she didn’t buy it in the end as it was too expensive

So we took a train to Siam Station (Paragon) before walking to MBK to hunt for Fuji…
Only to realise upon spotting the place that they’ve got a branch at Paragon (walked for nothing… haiz)

YES… a freaking BONE…. first bone in my salmon sashimi in my entire life …
I think you get stoned to death if you commit this culinary sin back in Japan

Headed to this shop to buy some food stuff back …. grabbed some “dog shit” (Pork floss in the shape of little pieces that resemble dog poo )…. coconut sweets, satay sticks, preserved mango slices, etc.

Back to Paragon from MBK … got my fix of Thai Iced Tea …

Shirley was captivated by these Swan Eclairs …. so she bought some back to the hotel …

As for me….

I didn’t try the new Shrimp burger….

Nor the succumbed to the temptation of the Double Big Mac (which only costs 132baht for a meal! – About SGD$5.80)
(4 beef patties for supper… too much lah )

I opted for my Samurai Pork Burger instead …. wah… miss this so much as well End of Day 02 … time to get some rest!

First of all… gotta thank TKL for taking the trouble to fetch us to the airport (even though I drove my own car ) and for driving my car back to my place Thanks man… hope your boss doesn’t see this post

Gotta grab some food as the flight’s close to 7pm and … erm… refuse to buy the food on the plane (budget airline… what to do – Jetstar)

Transit area didn’t have much food at Terminal 1 … had some miserable looking sushi… Delifrance… sandwiches… Toastbox (They’re freaking everywhere ….) so we ended up at Burger King … We start off with some unhealthy food!

She’s always all smiles when she’s off to a holiday even when served fried (fast) food 8-)

and… guess who?! This time round we have an extra travelling companion … Aly’s good friend Shirley

After checking into the hotel, we met one of Shirley’s friend. He was on his way to Chinatown with his colleague, so we tagged along hoping to grab a quick bite and perhaps explore the area since we’ve never been there.

The place was pretty dead… we thought that the shops would’ve been opened till late… apparently not

Only a long row of eating joints were opened… and most of them were serving shark fins
(ya ya… I know…cruel…save the sharks… blah blah blah)

We continued to walk aimlessly along the street …

Here’s where all the action is … 2 seafood roadside stalls opposite each other with lots of foreigners (tourists?) amongst some locals wacking plates and plates of seafood.

Die lah… nothing but thai and chinese characters … no engrish?

If you took away the thai words, you would’ve thought I was in HK ya? …sheesh… there I go again… I miss HK!!!

First up … DIFF water… It was DIFF alright…. tasted funny

The guy who took our orders spoke mandarin … great… Welcome to Chinatown
Funny thing was… he seemed to speak with a Malaysian accent
BIG GIGANTIC prawns…. quite scary … check out the size of these fat ones

We just wanted to try… not wack… so we ordered the in between despite the guy asking us to go all the way

Anyone can tell me what type of fish this is? Anyway it was steamed with some lime juice … interesting… quite tasty and certainly refreshing

Fried dou miao…. at the request of Aly and Shirley’s friend’s colleague Women!

Curry crabs… never had such a dish before … taste wise? Curry! Strange… with egg bits as well, it’s like chilli crab, but not as wet and tastes of curry not your regular chilli crab… But damn oily…

Bird’s Nest…. this place is not for folks who are conscious about animal friendly food and stuff…
Again, comes in different grades … they pushed us to get the most expensive ones as usual… we took the cheapest as we thought there weren’t be much difference (unless we ordered 1 cheap and 1 expensive one and compared the difference in bird’s nest added lol )
Comes in hot and cold versions (just shaved ice added for the cold version)
Ginko nuts added as well… Aly complained it was too sweet and didn’t finish hers

Complimentary tea (Oolong) to wash down your sinful supper

With nothing much left to do, we took a cab back to the hotel.
Feeling bo liao… I checked the room service menu for banana spit (as mentioned in my previous posts on Bangkok last year) and found that they’ve corrected the SPIT to SPLIT … cheh…

Time to sleep… it’s gonna be a long day tomorrow
